Contemporary dance is a mix of styles, with choreographers drawing from ballet, lyrical, and modern technique, and improvised movement. Contemporary choreography can be structured around a theme, a specific character, a world event or story.
In a contemporary class at Dancsync, students will develop their own unique style and movement vocabulary by participating in a variety of improvisational activities. Improvisation allows students to develop their creativity and break away from more structured dance technique.
Students are also taught to implement the 6 Elements of Modern into their improvisational work; jump, swing, bounce, contract/release, roll, and fall/rebound. They are also taught choreography that incorporates the Five Elements of Dance; body, space, time, energy, and relationship.
